“To be honest…” – Chelsea’s transfer policy slated by Champions League winner

Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill’s thoughts on the club’s summer mirror the thoughts of many Blues fans.

He’s pointed out that an already young and inexperienced team desperately needed an injection of age and knowledge.

“I’d like to see a little bit of experience added in the window, to be honest,” Cahill told The Sun.

“That would be a sensible play from Chelsea, from my personal point of view, to try and build that spine and knit together some of these young players.

“Obviously, the tactic has been to buy exciting young players to then develop over the next two or three years. That sometimes takes time, especially when you get players from different leagues, different countries. It’s not always easy for them to settle.

“For me, a good transfer window for Chelsea would be to have two or three experienced players that are not phased and potentially know the league but have been around a little bit. That would be vital in terms of getting the squad together and helping these young players to progress and almost set the standards and the levels.”

Making the same mistakes, window after window

We haven’t hated every move that the club has made this summer, but it’s amazing how quickly the problems of last season were forgotten. How many times did we bang our heads against the wall and lament the lack of quality experience and leadership in the team? And then the first move made this summer was allowed Thiago Silva to leave and bringing in another slew of young, inexperienced players.

Cahill is right, if you’re trying to build a winning team. You need that solid core of players. But this project long ago ceased to be about winning and became about being profitable, and for that to happen experienced players and their wages are just not on the agenda.

  1. Chelsea are just a joke, everyone knows we need a striker what do we do buy more keepers now have 8 on the books boehly and co just a bunch of clowns

  2. Yet more kids signed what does Boehly and co think will happen ? Lucky to finish in the top 10 this season, the biggest arseholes in football.

  3. Lately, the only uncomfortable life I have is hearing Chelsea buy a another young player. How come a bunch of Americans will come to England to screw a team that has instant winning mentality into a team that want to fight and await glory in many years to come?
    I just don’t get it?
