€14m man completes Chelsea medical ahead of surprise move to Stamford Bridge

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Renato Veiga has completed his medical and will sign his Chelsea contract on Thursday.

The Blues have agreed a deal worth €14m with Swiss side FC Basel for the Portugal under-20 international who is set to sign a contract until 2032 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market and Veiga is set to become their sixth summer signing after Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Estevao Willian who will join in 2025.

Veiga to sign Chelsea contract today

Romano has reported Veiga has now completed his medical and is set to sign his Chelsea contract on Thursday.

He took to X.com and said:

“EXCL: Renato Veiga has completed all medical tests as Chelsea player on Wednesday in London and contract will be signed today.

“Deal valid until June 2032 after €14m deal agreed with Basel, as revealed last week, it’s all set.”

The move for Veiga came as a surprise because there had been no links to the 20-year-old in the media, and the Blues had clearly been working on the deal in silence.

Chelsea were looking to sign a left footed defender, and have settled on Veiga who can play at left back, centre and in midfield.

Maresca wants fullbacks who can invert into midfield and Chelsea believe Veiga can fill that role, but he will be assessed on the pre-season tour of America later this month before a final decision is taken on whether he’s ready to be part of the first team squad or needs a loan to further his development.

The Blues are still in the market for a winger and a striker and have been linked with a whole host of names from across Europe, but according to reports they will wait and see how Guiu and Christopher Nkunku do in pre-season before making a move for a new striker.
