Serie A side enter race for unwanted Chelsea star with decision on future expected soon

Serie A side Fiorentina are the latest club to express an interest in Kepa Arrizabalaga according to reports, with Chelsea desperate to offload the goalkeeper this summer.

Arrizabalaga spent last season on loan at Spanish giants Real Madrid where he made 20 appearances in all competitions and won La Liga and the Champions League.

The 29-year-old returned to Chelsea this summer with just one year remaining on his contract and is currently training with the group of players the club are looking to move on.

Chelsea made the Spaniard the world’s most expensive goalkeeper when they paid Athletic Bilbao £71.6m for his services in 2018, and despite a promising start to life in west London the move has to ultimately go down as a disappointment.

The Spain international is now at a crossroads in his career and must take a decision on where to go next with his Chelsea career all but over.

Arrizabalaga has attracted interest from a number of suitors, although he’s believed to be holding out for a return to Real Madrid, but he won’t get clarity on that move until Andriy Lunin, who also has a year remaining on his deal decides if he wants to sign a new contract with the La Liga champions or leave for a new challenge.

Saudi side Al-Ittihad were interested and had an initial offer turned down, but have now switched their attention elsewhere.

However, London World have reported a new suitor have entered the race with Italian side Fiorentina expressing an interest.

The report adds they are prepared to agree a fee with Chelsea even though the goalkeeper has asked for more time to think about his future.

London World add that Chelsea are unlikely to demand more than £10m and would be happy to have his wages off the books.

Departures have been slow at Chelsea and it’s a big month ahead for the club in terms of moving players on whether that be on loan or on a permanent basis.
