We’re into the final 48 hours of the transfer window, so you can expect things to go back and forth a lot.
Today is a perfect example. At 11am we heard that German club Stuttgart were interested in Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, and had “inquired about a loan deal.” It’s not the first time moves abroad have been suggested for Chalobah, who had success on loan in France with Lorient.
Exclusive: #Stuttgart have inquired about a loan deal for Trevoh Chalobah. Looks increasingly likely it will be a loan if the centre-back leaves. #CrystalPalace still keen if they lose Marc Guehi. Host of other #EPL clubs too: https://t.co/ZXAl8N1X2u #cpfc #cfc #Chelseafc pic.twitter.com/FykgVa6cvC

But Fabrizio Romano has swooped in just now to say that “no move to Stuttgart expected,” with the defender currently “exploring different options.”
Well, he’d better get exploring – there isn’t much time left. There have been a few rumours this summer, but nothing has ever seemed particularly close for Trevoh, despite his quality and our reasonable asking price. By now he could have had a full and fruitful preseason somewhere, plus played some league games already. Has there really been that little interest? Is our asking price too high? It’s all very curious.

Chalobah should go and spread his wings
We were disappointed to see Romano shoot this one down. Of course, our ultimate wish is that Trevoh stays at Chelsea and gets given a chance again, but we’ve long ago given on that idea and accepted that he will be sold or loaned out.
If that’s going to be the case, a move to upwardly mobile Stuttgart looking to compete at the top of the Bundesliga again (where they finished 2nd last year) would be really fun, especially if it had been a loan deal where we got to see him skyrocket his value even more with good performances.
Sadly, a Premier League loan is looking a lot more likely now, with Crystal Palace apparently still in the race. Thomas above mentions a “host of other Premier League clubs” also being interested.
