(Video) Chelsea ace set to start for national team in position which will haunt fans

Levi Colwill is expected to start his first England game in nearly a year against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday at left back according to Sky Sports News.

Colwill has been recalled to the squad by interim manager Lee Carsley, with the defender part of the successful under-21 side which won the Euros in 2023.

The Cobham graduate missed out on the Euro 2024 squad this summer after missing the back end of last season with a toe injury, but he’s now returned.

The 21-year-old has started the season strongly under Enzo Maresca and has put in a number of impressive performances at centre back.

However, Sky Sports News have reported that Colwill is set to start for England for the first time in nearly a year, but at left back not centre back.

The news will bring back bad memories for Chelsea fans who got frustrated by Mauricio Pochettino deploying Colwill at left back at times last season, but given the lack of left backs currently available in the national team it’s really the only sensible option for Carsley.

It will be great to see Colwill back in an England shirt but Chelsea fans certainly won’t want to see him at left back after the international break.
