Chelsea are still looking to find a solution for Ben Chilwell with Turkey now the only realistic option for the 27-year-old, and Matt Law has provided an update on the chances of that move happening.
The Blues have made it clear to Chilwell that he’s not part of the plans going forward under Enzo Maresca, and the England international would have aware of that having only played 64 minutes in pre-season.
Chilwell played a big part in Chelsea’s Champions League success in 2021, but he’s really struggled with injury issues over the past couple of seasons and simply isn’t the same player he was before.
However, whilst the Blues were able to find new homes for Raheem Sterling and Trevoh Chalobah, it’s proven much more difficult in Chilwell’s case.
The left back, who reportedly earns £200,000 is currently training away from the first team but seems to have very few suitors, with the only viable option now Turkey as their window is open until September 18th.
Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are likely to be the only clubs who can afford to contribute to or pay Chilwell’s wages, but Law has provided an update on the London Is Blue Podcast saying there’s been no offers yet for the player, and he wouldn’t even rate the chance of it happening as 50-50.
This means Chilwell is facing the prospect of playing no football until January which is unlikely to boost his chances of finding suitors in the winter window.
