Strasbourg boss shares exactly what’s impressed him about Chelsea’s Andrey Santos

Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior has revealed what’s impressed him most about talented Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos.

Santos is one of a number of young South American’s the Blues have signed over the last couple of years and he arrived from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in January 2023 for a reported fee of £13m, but spent the rest of the season on loan in Brazil.

Although Santos is yet to play for the Blues in a competitive game it’s believed they are very excited by the 20-year-old and it appears he could have a big future at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior very impressed with Santos

Santos impressed in pre-season under Mauricio Pochettino, but the decision was taken to send him on loan to Nottingham Forest to gain Premier League experience with that move turning out to be a disaster as he hardly kicked a ball.

He was recalled last January and sent on loan to sister side Strasbourg, where after a slow start he started to find his feet and put in some impressive performances.

There was talk of Santos being part of Enzo Maresca’s squad this season but the decision was taken to send him back to Strasbourg, this time for the full season.

The Brazilian has had a superb start to the season in France and has scored three goals in four appearances, whilst also picking up a Ligue 1 Young Player of the Month award.

Santos has been impressing many with his performances and Strasbourg boss Rosenior has revealed what’s impressed him most about the midfielder.

“Andrey is a top player, he is a true professional,” he said as cited on X.com.

“He works every day to progress and improve. On the pitch, he plays like a very experienced player, almost like a coach.”

Chelsea will be delighted to see Santos doing so well and will hope he can continue his form for the remainder of the campaign and then come back and play a role for the Blues next season.

It will be a big task to get regular minutes with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez at the club, but it certainly seems the youngster would embrace the challenge.
