One pundit has claimed that most Chelsea fans would swap Conor Gallagher for one of their current players right now after selling the aforementioned to Atletico Madrid this summer.
Gallagher has had a decent start to life in La Liga, getting Man of the Match and scoring a goal at the weekend.
EXCL: Reece James recovery progress and exactly where he is – is there really a setback?
The midfielder became a real fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, but there was also a section of online fans or fans who don’t perhaps go to as many games, who did not rate Gallagher and were pleased that he was sold.
However, he did seem to have a high cult following at games, and pundit Danny Murphy believes that some of those fans would rather have Gallagher than Enzo Fernandez right now.
Gallagher over Fernandez?
I could see it being a real debate actually with some fans being very clear on their thoughts on this one.
But really, they are different types of players and bring different elements to the pitch.
As cited on X.com this week, Murphy said:
“I don’t think there’s many Chelsea [fans] that wouldn’t swap Fernandez for Gallagher right now.
He’s one of those players who, when he’s on your team, we know what we’re getting from him.”
Personally I think that that if you did a poll for this amongst fans in general, then it might be a little bit more split than Murphy thinks it is.
Gallagher was adored at this club, but Fernandez has a lot of supporters here too.
