Romano exclusive: £20m talent rated better than Dewsbury-Hall will not be loaned

Carney Chukwuemeka is one of a number of Chelsea players left in limbo as transfer windows close across Europe.

The midfielder has not been able to find a move away from the club, after spending the last few months training with the exile group away from Enzo Maresca’s main squad. There was talk of interest from teams in Germany like Frankfurt, but nothing ever came of it. Most Blues fans would love see him given a chance in the first team – and almost universally they rate him above summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive for CaughtOffside today claims that Chukwuemeka is “only available for permanent transfer”, and that the sporting directors won’t let him go on loan, despite reported interest from Galatasaray in Turkey, where the transfer window remains open.

“Chelsea always considered Carney only available on a permanent deal, not on loan… so the only way would be to change Chelsea management’s mind, but this hasn’t happened so far,” the Italian insider wrote.

Another questionable strategic move from Chelsea decision makers

This is another move we simply don’t understand. Chelsea bought a talented young player for £20m, didn’t use him, and are now trying to sell him. What was the point of the whole move then? Either play them to help your team, or play them to improve their value, or don’t buy them in the first place.

Chukwuemeka spent his first season on the bench, and most of last year out injured. He could have been loaned out in that time, or even this season. We bought high, and now we’re determined to sell low. It just doesn’t add up as a strategy. We’re not comfortable or happy with our club being used as a sort of asset trading operation, but if you’re going to do it, at least do it right.
