Frank Leboeuf is a divisive figure among Chelsea fans at the moment. He’s very much against the club’s current ownership, and has been pointing out their mistakes since the day they arrived.
That makes him popular with those who agree, and unpopular with those still backing the current owners. Today he’s taken particular aim at two of the late window signings the club made, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho.
In both cases, the Blues appeared to just be helping out two clubs who had made big transfer mistakes. Leboeuf couldn’t get his head around why we might do that, especially given Felix had already had one disappointing spell at the club 18 months ago.
“Sancho and Felix, I’m not sure many clubs wanted them. And surprisingly, it’s only Chelsea who got them. That’s insane. Joao Felix until 2031. How come? We have seen him playing. I don’t need data for that. I don’t understand half of the signings that we see. Those people are just ruining Chelsea Football Club,” the former defender spluttered.
Harsh but fair criticism from a man who has not been missing
We’d love to disagree with Leboeuf, we’d love to say he’s been consistently wrong with his negativity in the last couple of years – but sadly the opposite is true. He saw through all the bluster early on when others were getting very overexcited. He’s remained
And frankly, we agree with him, at least on both counts here. It’s not impossible that Felix or Sancho go on to be a success here, but we were not in favour of either deal at the time, and the fact they’re both joining on permanent deals makes it even harder to understand.
Let’s hope we – and Frank – have got this one wrong.
Felix has looked good (including a fantastic goal) in two appearances and Sancho hasn’t even played for goodness sake. Talk about a rush to judgment! Frank is rapidly turning into just another Craig Burley—full of hot takes and bluster but lacking credibility. I mean when a guy says “I don’t need data” you ought to see a red light flashing that he’s letting emotion get the better of his (apparently underwhelming) intellect.
Felix and Sancho are more better players thank Frank in his error days
