Sky Sports pundit makes bold claim about what Chelsea’s goal for next season should be

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock has made a bold claim about what Chelsea should be looking to do next season.

The Blues have had a mixed start to the season and have seven points from their first four games thanks to a 1-0 victory against Bournemouth last Saturday.

It’s still early days in Enzo Maresca’s reign and you would imagine the team will improve a lot over the course of the season, with the main aim to get the club back into the Champions League and win silverware.

Warnock makes bold Chelsea claim for next season

Chelsea have struggled for stability both on and off the pitch over the last two seasons and could really do with a drama free campaign, although given the falling out between Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali it looks set to be another rollercoaster season at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca knows he’s under pressure to deliver, but he does have the tools at his disposal to make a success of his first season in charge and beyond.

Chelsea have rightfully been criticised for their on pitch performances, whilst many have taken a swipe at their transfer strategy, but there’s no denying the squad is packed with quality and plenty of options.

The Blues added Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho over the summer and their squad depth was on show agaisnt Bournemouth as they were able to introduce Sancho, Felix and Christopher Nkunku from the bench in the second half.

Whilst Chelsea want to get back to challenging at the top end of the table that’s not realistic just yet, but Warnock believes that should be their goal next year.

“The goal won’t be to win the Premier League this season, but it will be to break into that top four,” he told Sky Sports.

“The goal next year should be to win the Premier League because they have got so much talent within their squad.”

Chelsea last won a title under Antonio Conte in 2017 and have failed to challenge for it since and fans will be hoping that changes sooner rather than later.
