(Video): “Demoralised” Stamford Bridge and players affected by “negative distractions” could spell disaster for Chelsea

Like those of us at Chelsea News, Simon Johnson thought he was in for a relatively relaxed week following the closing of the transfer window. Instead, the drama went up a gear, from players to ownership.

Johnson went on TalkSport to talk about the “negative distraction” caused by the whole affair. He pointed out that Stamford Bridge was “increasingly demoralised” by the whole thing, which is undeniable. Thing had been getting worse and worse before we knew that our owners had fallen out. We dread to think what the mood could be like now.

You can see him making his point in the clip embedded here:

  1. Simon and SuperFrank appear to have no sense of IRONY, lol!

They’ve over-hyped this story as a “civil war” and then turn right around feigning concern that it could become a “distraction” to the players. Well, if that concern is genuine, maybe THEY should take things down a notch for crying out loud! I mean you can’t have it both ways. If you’re SOOO concerned about the potential distraction then stop reporting it so breathlessly as if it’s a Mt. Vesuvius threatening to bury Pompeii.

Alas, what “Chelsea News” are doing is exploiting the situation, seeking to maximize clicks by hyping the ownership controversy AND THEN turning right around and hyping the threat posed by the “civil war” they’re helping to create! Talk about the tail wagging the dog!

Make no mistake, none of this helps Chelsea FC. Indeed, it’s pretty cynical coming from a “news” site whose contributors are self-avowed club supporters. If this were simply a tabloid site they could perhaps be forgiven for their self-serving behaviour, but, as supporters, it really begs questions about where their loyalties lie. Is it to reporting “news?” If so, why the constant stream of opinion and the lack of rigor in sourcing stories? Is it to the club? If so, why deliberately stir controversy (that, at least according to this latest from Simon Johnson, could very well hurt the club by “distracting” the players)? Or is it all, at the end of the day, about driving “clicks” and generating site revenue? Given the preponderance of the evidence (including the incredibly invasive new site pop-up ads from “Stake”), it’s hard not to reach this latter conclusion that’s it’s not about journalism or the badge, but about the money.

Please, by all means, prove me wrong “Chelsea News.” Stop helping to drive the very controversy you claim could hurt the club. You can report the “news” without overblowing it as “civil war” and you can do your part as supporter-reporters by not unnecessarily inflaming sentiment, especially when it serves no constructive outcome.
