Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has had two weeks off because of the international break, but today he was back at the coalface answering questions about his squad, with the window closed.
Most of the outcast group have left, but two remain – Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka. Maresca took the chance today to open the door for a return for both.
On Chukwuemeka he said he “really likes” the midfielder, who was with him in preseason and is in the Conference League squad. It sounds like we can expect some minutes for him.
“We have so many attacking midfielders, that he’s going to struggle to find space… [but] he’s one of the players in our squad and we can use him.”
It’s true that we have a lot of attacking midfielders – that’s precisely why we didn’t think signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Joao Felix were particularly necessary signings.
