Estevao Willian has not even arrived at Chelsea yet, and we’re already getting pretty familiar with the name of his agent, Andre Cury.
To be honest, that’s bound to happen with a true Brazilian wonderkid. Their representatives don’t tend to be the retiring type. Cury has today been speaking out about his client and his superb potential, including some interesting tactical details.
“He can adapt to any style of play,” Cury told Brazilian broadcaster UOL in quotes picked up by CaughtOffside.
“Chelsea is a club that sees Estevao playing as a number ten, for us that is important.
“He can develop even more playing in the middle.”
It should be no surprise that an agent is pushing their client towards the middle of the pitch, of course. But there’s plenty of excitement to be had out wide too, especially when you dribble like Willian.
Many games left to learn more about precocious talent
Estevao is one of those talents who really looks like he’s actually going to live up to the hype – and the hype is enormous. He’s such a tall, elastic dribbler that it feels natural to have him on the outside. But he’s also got the ball striking and technical skill to play in the hole.
Palmeiras know he’s leaving for Chelsea, and they’re making sure they get their money’s worth, playing him regularly. He’s also now in the Brazil picture, incredibly. That means lots of chances for Chelsea to see him in action, and learn a little more in advance about what he could bring to the team when he arrives next summer.
He’s featured in 21 of 25 possible games in the Brazilian top flight this season, and has looked brilliant cutting inside, with his fierce long shot super effective from that angle.
