Villarreal one of three European teams interested in signing €15m Chelsea star

Cesare Casadei is attracting interest from Spanish side Villarreal whist clubs in Italy are also interested in the midfielder according to reports.

Casadei arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Italian side Inter Milan in a deal worth an initial £12.6m, but has yet to establish himself in the first team set-up.

The 21-year-old has had loan spells at both Reading and Leicester, but faces a tough task to get regular minutes at Stamford Bridge due to the fierce competition for places.

The Italian was expected to be one of the players to leave the club in the summer but a move failed to materialise and he ended up staying in west London.

Casadei had a good international break for the Italy U21s and earned praise from national team boss Luciano Spalletti who said he could be ready for the senior side soon.

In a recent interview Casadei made it clear it was his choice to remain at Chelsea and that he couldn’t be more proud to play for the club.

However, according to Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web, Villarreal are interested in the midfielder, whilst Italian clubs Fiorentina and Atalanta are keeping an eye on the situation, with both clubs expressing interest in the summer.

Casadei has yet to play a single minute in the Premier League this season and his minutes have been limited to the cup competitions, where he’s completed the full 90 minutes against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and Gent in the Conference League.

Whilst it’s admirable that Casadei wants to fight for his place and be a success at Chelsea the reality is there are many better players ahead of him.

It seemsthe best solution would be to go on loan and play regular football to help his development because he’s not going to improve and reach his potential if he’s just playing the odd cup game here and there, with Chelsea likely to revisit the situation in January.
