If there’s one thing we’ve learned from this season so far, it’s that Robert Sanchez is not the answer in goal for Chelsea.
Against expectations he was given another run in the first team, with the man who took his place last season (Djordje Petrovic) sent off on loan to Strasbourg.
But a second bite of the cherry has not proved particularly tasty for Sanchez. Time and again he’s making mistakes and looking like the weak link in this team. If those in charge of making the transfers at this club weren’t thinking about replacing him before, they certainly will be now.
The good start to this season has increased confidence in other areas, however. We now have a really young, deep squad which is proving itself capable of picking up consistent results, and will hopefully only improve with experience.
There are certainly areas that can be improved, but there are not a host of changes that need to be made this summer – the club can really put the bulk of their budget on a world class keeper, if they so desire. And they might need to, if they want to pick up their number one target.
Costa is Chelsea’s top target – but could cost €70m
Caughtoffside today claim that sources “with a close understanding of the situation” have told them that Chelsea “have long had an interest in Diogo Costa.”
We can well believe that – he’s just 25, has bags of experience at club, European and international level, plays well with the ball and looks in every way the perfect modern keeper. No wonder Bayern Munich are also being linked, and a €70m price tag put on him.
Will Chelsea’s experience of spending so much on Kepa back in the day come back and haunt them? Maybe so. We will find out soon enough.
CFC just bought Jorgensen why do they have to spent again . Just promote Jorgensen to number 1 and bring back petrovic . Buy center back promote next season anselmino . Get a version of rodri as DCM . Why not try caceido Lavia and Enzo in midfield and play Palmer Felix and Jackson upfront.
