Chelsea legend Frank Lampard believes the club’s start to the season under Enzo Maresca shows the Blues are going in the right direction.
The Blues once again added a number of new faces to the squad over the summer and took a risk in appointing Maresca who won the Championship title with Leicester last season.
It’s fair to say Chelsea have got off to a better start than many expected and the Blues have impressed with their performances as they sit fourth with 13 points from their first six games, two points behind early leaders Liverpool.
Chelsea heading in the right direction
Chelsea have come under a lot of criticism over the past couple of years both on and off the pitch, with recruitment an area that has come under fire.
However, it seems Chelsea have assembled a squad packed full of talent which will be able to compete on multiple fronts, with enough options to keep players fresh and not sacrifice the quality on the pitch.
It’s still a very young team which lacks experience and that can make consistency difficult to come by, but a number of these players have now been at the club for a season or more and that experience is only going to help Chelsea.
Lampard, who has both played for and managed the club believes after a difficult couple of years they are now heading in the right direction.
“They’re young, that’s a fact, and with a young team it’s not always easy to have great consistency,” he told TNT Sports Mexico as cited on X.com.
“Maybe to win things [with young players], it’s not always easy. But it’s a strategy that Chelsea have taken. At the moment and the start of the season they’ve had now, it feels like they are going in the right direction.
“There is lots of young talent, especially in forward areas. There are lots of options to change in-game or change and stay fresh.”
The start to the season has been impressive but tougher tests lie ahead after the international break against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, which is where a lot more will be found out about Chelsea and just how good this team is.
However, it’s just nice to be talking about the club in a positive light again after a lot of negativity over the past couple of years and long may that continue.
