“I can confirm” – Fabrizio Romano speaks on biggest Chelsea story of the week so far

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has spoken out on the biggest Chelsea story of the week so far that came out yesterday and caused a right stir.

Chelsea have been criticised a lot lately and they have not quite yet won over the fan base despite good performances and most of them taking to new manager Enzo Maresca. I don’t think all of them are convinced with the sporting directors and the owners just yet though, with many things that have happened in the past that they have not liked.

BIG EXCLUSIVE!! Chelsea exploring ambitious move to sign Manchester City centre back as well as watching TWO Benfica defenders!!

However, I have seen fans warming to them a bit more this season, with a lot more praise offered out.

But things like this story are not going to help and are just going to fuel those who do not like how the new owners and sporting directors operate already.

I am talking about the situation of Josh Acheampong, a Chelsea academy player who has been frozen out and told he will not play in any capacity for Chelsea until he signs a new contract extension. Absolutely crazy.

Romano confirms the story

Not a nice situation for the young player

Speaking on his latest YouTube video last night, Romano says:

“I can confirm a story from earlier today: Chelsea have no intention of playing or including Josh Acheampong in an important way in the squad until he signs a new deal. Chelsea feel many clubs have started approaching him!

“Talks are ongoing between Chelsea and Josh Acheampong’s agents to find a solution, and it is a priority for the club to sort out. The club knows it’s important and doesn’t want to lose him on a free transfer.”

It’s another messy situation and personally I do not like to see any club treat a young player like this, it’s very much blackmail, and that does not sit well with me to be honest.

  1. If the senior management and the board continue to treat the players in this way, we will struggle to sign players in the future. I understand selling players (on their final year of their contract)if they are refusing to sign is good for business. There has been some really bad treatment of players in the last couple of transfer windows and it all stems from having too many players. (Chilly is a perfect example, shockingly looked after). Surely, it’s an obvious fact that we don’t require 44 first team players. It’s not fair on Enzo and/or the players themselves. Everyone (players, agents, family members and the media) are looking at the poor treatment by the club to players outside the selected 26 and will sign elsewhere, which would be totally understandable, IMO. Please sort out the mess and treat the players that are deemed surplus to requirements with a bit of respect. Final point you can’t expect players to have loyalty to the club/badge if the board aren’t showing loyalty, respect to their friends, colleagues and team mates. Respect starts from the top and filters down but so does mistrust.
