Michael Emenalo admits Chelsea target is a “terrific talent” and expected more

Former Chelsea sporting director Michael Emenalo has admitted that one Chelsea target and a player they have already tried to sign, is a ‘terrific talent’.

Emenalo was largely a popular figure at Chelsea, but they soon parted ways and went in different directions. Emenalo was part of a very successful era at the club though, and most Chelsea fans will remember that and thank him for his part in it.

EXCLUSIVE! Surprise Chelsea player impressing training ground staff, but not for his quality….

He certainly has an eye for talent, so it’s always interesting to see which players he rates and which players he doesn’t rate so much. On this occasion though, it is a player that he rates.

Emenalo thinks striker Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, is a terrific talent.

Chelsea seemingly spent the summer trying to buy Osimhen only for it to fail in the final days of the window and Chelsea had to admit defeat on this one.

Emenalo speaks about the pursuit

Osimhen was chased by Chelsea

Emenalo was the Chelsea technical director from 2011-2017. However, he’s now transitioned into a role as the Sporting Director of the Saudi Pro League.

Emenalo has shared what he thinks about the Osimhen situation whilst speaking to John Obi Mikel on his podcast this week.

“I think maybe in some clubs’ minds and planning they thought they were close. What being close means is different for me than for the clubs.

“Because for me it’s close when the paperwork come through my desk and you know requires my valuation and signature. Until that happens, then it is not close.

“And that didn’t happen. But there was obviously clear interest. You know I thought my former club would get him, because you know he’s a terrific player.”

Chelsea have been linked with wanting to make another move to try and bring Osimhen in this coming January window. So we will have to wait and see if anything develops there.
