Chelsea are doing well in the table, but their inability to keep a clean sheet remains a worry.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has got a lot of flak, and Levi Colwill was castigated for giving away a silly penalty against Liverpool.
This week it’s Wesley Fofana under fire, with the complaints there more about his general form that any specific moment. There seems to be a growing sentiment among Chelsea fans that Fofana is “cooked”, as those writing on social media might say.
He is no slouch, but he doesn’t have the awesome physical dominance he once did, and that reduces his confidence in stepping out. On the ball he hasn’t hit the heights of Colwill either.

TV pundits back Fofana criticism
It hasn’t just been chatter online about Fofana either. The first pundit we’ve heard speak openly on the subject is Frank Lebouef, who said on ESPN the following about his countryman:
“At one point we will have to talk about Wesley Fofana because he worries me a lot.â€
Now of course Lebouef is often very negative about Chelsea – but he’s often very right too. And sometimes he’s just the first to say something that becomes commonly accepted not long after.
We might have ignored what he thought, if it hadn’t been for the complaints growing among fans too.
Back in the summer he looked really shaky, but fears have faded because he’s cut out the silly mistakes of July and August. But the consensus seems to be that he’s not the same player as before the injury, and is someone we can definitely upgrade on.
After such a long time out, there’s always scope for further improvements to come to his form with time, but it seems the more impatient have decided that this is as good as we’ll ever see – and it’s not good enough.
