Chelsea monitoring 21-year-old who cost £20m in the summer ahead of possible transfer in 2025

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is a name under consideration at Chelsea as the Blues assess their options for a new striker according to reports.

Chelsea have made a good start to the season and currently sit third in the league and are on track to qualify for the Champions League at this early stage of the campaign.

Despite not signing a striker in the summer the Blues haven’t struggled for goals and have looked good going forward, although there’s always room for improvement.

Delap under consideration as Chelsea plot move for new striker

The Blues pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the summer but failed to agree a deal for the Nigerian, whilst they were also linked with Jhon Duran and Samu Omorodion.

However, given Nicolas Jackson’s start to the season it appears not signing a striker may not have been a complete disaster, and Martin Keown recently described him as one of the most feared strikers in the league.

The Senegal international has six goals and three assists in 11 games this season and early signs are his finishing has clearly improved.

Christopher Nkunku is currently Chelsea’s other option at centre forward although that’s not his preferred position, and a lack of game time has led to reports over his future.

A new striker is likely still on Chelsea’s list and GIVEMESPORT have reported the Blues are considering a move for a new number nine next summer rather than in January.

The report adds Delap is a name being considered and club scouts have watched almost every game the striker has played this season.

GIVEMESPORT add Delap is set to be monitored by the Blues for the remainder of the season as they look for a way to sign a striker that isn’t going to command a large transfer fee.

Delap only joined Ipswich in the summer from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £20m, but he’s impressed for the Tractor Boys this season.

The 21-year-old has six goals in 11 league games and is certainly a player to keep an eye on over the course of the season, and if Ipswich go down he will almost certainly be on the move.

Delap fits the age bracket Chelsea recruit in and he’s a physical profile which the Blues lack at the top end of the pitch, so it will be interesting to see how this story develops.

  1. Well, if they’re satisfied with Jackson as their starter (and no reason they shouldn’t be) this makes a lot more sense than splashing out big on an Osimhen, Gyokeres or Isak.
