Chelsea and Maresca could be set for boost with “special” player set to return against Leicester

Jadon Sancho could make his return to action for Chelsea against Leicester on Saturday according to The Evening Standard.

Sancho arrived at Chelsea on deadline day from Manchester United on an initial loan deal, which will become permanent for in the region of £25m as long as the Blues don’t finish in the bottom six of the Premier League.

The 24-year-old was one of three high profile attacking signings in the summer along with Joao Felix and Pedro Neto as the Blues added quality and depth to their squad.

Sancho made a great start to life at Chelsea and was named man of the match on his debut against Bournemouth after coming on at half time and assisting the winner for Christopher Nkunku.

The England international made it three assists in three games after setting up goals against West Ham and Brighton, and earlier this season Enzo Maresca described him as special.

Following his positive start things haven’t quite gone to plan for Sancho and after starting against Liverpool at Anfield last month, a game in which he was substituted at half time he’s not featured for the club since.

Sancho was left on the bench for games against Panathinaikos and Newcastle, a decision Maresca explained as tactical, whilst he missed the Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies through illness.

The winger was unavailable against United due to the conditions of his loan, and he missed the games against Noah and Arsenal.

Sancho has been unlucky but it now means by the time Chelsea play Leicester on Saturday it would have been over a month since he last featured for the club.

Whether he will be available remains to be seen, but The Evening Standard have reported the winger hopes to return after the international break, and mentioned the Leicester game as a possible return date.

With the fixtures coming thick and fast Chelsea will want as many players available as possible and the squad will be used to it’s full extent in the busy build-up to Christmas, so Sancho will likely get plenty of opportunities.
