€100m transfer could happen in next 18 months – but Chelsea won’t be part of it

With the January transfer window now just a month away, rumours are starting to return, and one of the biggest names likely set to move clubs in the next 18 months is still being linked to Chelsea.

Bild have this week put up a full feature about Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens, claiming that the German side are determined to get €100m for the latest elite talent to be nurtured in their first team.

His promise has always been clear, but now he’s starting to really deliver, even for a very flaky Dortmund team that are doing well in the Champions League but continue to stutter domestically.

He scored in their 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in midweek, and is compared in the Bild piece to Arjen Robben, the former Bayern winger who threatened teams in a similar manner.

The writer is convinced that the England youth star will be Dortmund’s “next €100m sale.”

Chelsea don’t seem like likely Gittens destination right now

Gittens looks a top talent, but it’s hard to see where he fits in at Chelsea. There is already serious competition for places, and next summer Estevao Willian arrives, as perhaps the most vaunted young right winger in world football.

Of course those in charge are never going to want to stop accumulating talent – but a fee like the €100m mentioned is not really part of their plan. For that money you want a guaranteed starter for ten years, not someone to come in and compete with other

If Gittens continues his progress with Dortmund we have no doubt that someone will pay their impressive asking price – but as it stands, it doesn’t look likely to be Chelsea, despite the rumours that continue to leak out of Germany.
