He hadn’t impressed consistently in his first 18 months at the club, and with the quantity of attacking players brought in, there were serious doubts the winger would stay. Fabrizio Romano reported late in the summer that “in case of receiving an important proposal, it was a possibility for them to sell the player.”

Instead, Madueke stayed and forced his way into the first team. He also has started picking up England caps, and his future is now secured. His profile is rising all the time. Madueke has tough task with England

His place at Chelsea is established – and it doesn’t get any easier with England, where he’s got to compete with Arsenal star Bukayo Saka for minutes:

“I don’t look at Bukayo like competition. I look at Bukayo as a team-mate who plays for England. I know his quality and he is a player that I look at to try and implement parts of his game into mine,” Madueke explained.

£I don’t look at him like, ‘I am coming for you’. The manager will make his decision and I am happy to be part of this team, and to start to make a difference for England this early on in my career is great. I feel like I did my job. I created the first goal and I was a threat pretty much until I came off. That is what I try to bring every time I step on the pitch.”
