Elite striker is on the market – but Chelsea might turn him down anyway

When Nicolas Jackson arrived at Chelsea he barely had one top flight season under his belt, and was seen as the likely backup to a big name who would arrive shortly after. But that summer ended without anyone else added, and at times last season the Blues really struggled with the lack of an elite, polished goalscorer to turn draws into wins, and losses into draws.

But as the campaign went on, Jackson got better and better and more and more experienced. By the time we got to the summer of 2024, the future was much less clear. Would Chelsea still be hunting for a more established striker? It seemed like our focus was more on players similar to Jackson rather than upgrades.

But for all his qualities, there’s no doubt that every team in football is always looking for a potential prolific goalscorer, and Victor Osimhen is one of the few out there. CaughtOffside today claim that next summer the Nigerian striker could make his move to Chelsea at least, with his contract at Napoli starting to run down and no pathway for a return to Serie A appearing open.

Osimhen would create fascinating dilemma

An Osimhen available at a reasonable price would create a fascinating dilemma for Chelsea’s sporting structure. Their bet on Jackson has paid off hugely, and they will be tempted to just keep backing their man.

But the chance to get an elite gunman like Osimhen might simply be too good to turn down. He’s the kind of player could potentially upgrade the squad instantly and put this team into contention for trophies right away.

His wage demands will be crazy however, and could put the whole operation under stress. Next summer could be a really interesting test of the model currently in place.
