€14m man shares why there’s no better place to be the best version of himself than Chelsea

Renato Veiga has been speaking about his journey to Chelsea and opened on what his ambitions are for his time at the club.

The Portugal international was a surprise summer signing with the Blues paying €14m to Swiss side FC Basel for his services.

Very few people knew anything about the 21-year-old, but he seems to have settled into life well and has impressed in the appearances he’s made.

Veiga speaks on his Chelsea ambitions

One of the reasons Chelsea signed him is because of his versatility, with the Portuguese capable of playing at left back, centre back and in midfield, and Maresca has admitted that’s one of the reasons he’s a big fan of Veiga.

Chelsea primarily signed him to be a back up left back to Marc Cucurella with Ben Chilwell out of the picture, although he’s also featured at centre back and in midfield this season.

It appears Veiga will be a very useful squad player for the Blues and he can expect to potentially see more game time as the fixtures come thick and fast in the build-up to Christmas.

Veiga’s game time has mainly been limited to the cup competitions and he scored his first goal for the Blues in the 4-2 victory against Gent in the Conference League.

He’s started just one Premier League game against Bournemouth and has made five league appearances totalling 164 minutes,

When Veiga plays he gives everything for the badge and that’s not gone unnoticed by the fans, who have really taken to him.

Veiga will hope to be at Chelsea for many years to come and in a recent interview he revealed what he wanted to achieve at the club.

“My parents told me to always try and do my best in every situation,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“That is exactly what I am doing now. I always want to be the best version of myself I can be. There is no better place to do it than at Chelsea. I’m just proud.

“I want to give my best for this huge club, and win a lot of trophies. That’s what we all want.

“We don’t know when, if it’s today or tomorrow, but that’s our main goal and that is what we are working towards.”
