A second source has now come forward and backed up a story reported yesterday by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano regarding Chelsea.
The Blues are looking to add a new centre back to the ranks, and yesterday it was reported by Romano that Chelsea are on the hunt for a new defender and have Benfica’s Tomas Araujo on their radar as a player they love.

And it seems like now this is a link that is building more and more momentum as a second source also puts their report out on this story, and it’s a local source.
It’s clear that Chelsea want to bring in a new centre back, but really, they should be targeting a dominant profile with a bit more experience and a player who is proven and established. That for me is what they really need and what they are missing. However, Araujo is a top talent.
Palace and Chelsea make contact
Tuesday’s edition of O Jogo has an article covering a couple of potential Benfica exits in the coming windows.
Araújo is one of the players named after Romano’s report yesterday.
O Jogo report Crystal Palace and Chelsea have already been in contact over potentially signing the central defender.
Araújo has a €100m release clause with Benfica, but I doubt any club is paying that and they would look to try and bring that fee down if they are to sign him. But Benfica do hold all the cards here, and I am sure that many Chelsea fans will hate the thought of having to deal with them again after the long, drawn out up and down transfer saga with Enzo Fernandez.
So we will just have to wait and see with this one and if the interest steps up from Chelsea or not.
