“Initial talks” held over Chelsea defender – but Juventus and Marseille look to be out of luck after injury

CaughtOffside are today claiming that two top European sides are interested in signing Benoit Badiashile from Chelsea.

Marseille have apparently held “initial talks” and Juventus have put the ex-Monaco man on their list of targets.

Sources have informed the transfer gossip site that both teams are keen on a January move – but also that Enzo Maresca rates the central defender highly and won’t want to let him go, despite some shaky moments over the last 12 months.

With Wesley Fofana now out injured, Badiashile looks set to be a regular until the new year, having established himself ahead of Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi in Maresca’s thinking.

Chelsea likely to hold firm over Badiashile sale

We wouldn’t be averse to selling Badiashile if it was a necessary move in order to secure a world class defender who would instantly slot into our back line and improve us significantly. We all saw how the addition of Virgil Van Dijk changed Liverpool’s fortunes on a truly historic level.

But with his current form improving, and given he is happy to basically be a B team player (at least for now), there is absolutely no rush to be rid of him. In fact, if he keeps getting rotation minutes and keeps playing well, as he has done in the last couple of months, his eventual sale value is only increasing.

We’re pretty sure the sporting directors will be thinking along the same lines – they brought Badiashile in, and they’re not going to give up on him at the exact moment he seems to be finding some form.

Of course if someone came in with a big offer, they might think twice. But neither Marseille nor Juventus seem like they’re going to be the ones who make that sort of offer.
