Enzo Maresca was delighted with Chelsea’s comeback win against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon but reserved special praise for two players.
The Blues made it four Premier League wins in a row as they beat their rivals 4-3 despite being 2-0 down inside the first 12 minutes after Marc Cucurella slipped twice to let Spurs in.
Jadon Sancho pulled one back in the first half thanks to a brilliant strike and the Blues turned the game on it’s head in the second half thanks to a great finish from Enzo Fernandez and two Cole Palmer penalties, the second an audacious Panenka.
Maresca reserves praise for Chelsea’s wingers
The win saw the Blues close the gap on leaders Liverpool to four points after the Merseyside was postponed and Maresca’s men are now two points clear of Arsenal in third following their draw against Fulham.
It was a real team effort against Tottenham and was a demonstration of the mentality and the togetherness within the squad at this point in time.
After a shaky start the Blues composed themselves, played their football and almost knew the chances would come their way.
The Blues have now scored 35 goals from 15 games and are the top scorers in the league with Spurs and Brentford joint second with 31.
Maresca revealed after the game he was delighted with the team, but singled two players out for praise who he described as fantastic.
“For me, the headline today is for all the team,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live as cited on X.com.
“Especially for the two wingers, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho. They were fantastic on the ball but also off the ball they sacrificed. Today they were both fantastic.”
Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho certainly put in a shift in, with Sancho’s goal impressing Paul Merson, whilst former Premier League chairman Simon Jordan admitted he had doubts over the Portugal international.
Maresca deserves huge praise for how hard he’s got the attacking players working and for the impact he’s made in such a short space of time.
