“Decision confirmed” – Romano shares that Chelsea have made first January addition to their squad

Chelsea have made the decision to recall teenage defender Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Boca Juniors according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues agreed a deal worth £15m in the summer for the 19-year-old and loaned him back to the Argentinian side for the season.

Anselmino is one of many names Chelsea have signed from South America as they look to tap into the market and sign some of the best talent the continent has to offer.

Chelsea to recall Anselmino from loan

Chelsea have a lot of of defensive options with Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana the current first choice partnership, whilst they have the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi in reserve.

It’s no secret the Blues are looking for a new centre back, although they are expected to be quiet in the January window in terms of incomings.

It’s likely that Disasi will leave the club in the summer at the latest, and the Blues have been linked with a move for Benfica’s Tomas  Araujo.

Aaron Anselmino signs for Chelsea!
Chelsea agreed a deal worth £15m to sign Anselmino in the summer.

Anselmino is a player who is very much looked at as a future prospect and he’s impressed at Boca, although he’s been injured recently and made 18 appearances for Boca in 2024.

Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have made the decision to cut short his loan and Anselmino will join up with Maresca’s squad next week.

He took to X.com and said:

“Aaron Anselmino returns to Chelsea as he will join Enzo Maresca’s squad with immediate effect from Boca Juniors.

“Argentinian centre back travels to London at the end of this week, ready to join training at Cobham from next week. Decision confirmed.”

It’s unclear how fit Anselmino is right now and whether he will play in the second half of the season, whilst a loan to a European side can’t be ruled out with a couple of international loan spots still available, but it’s certainly an interesting decision.

  1. A good decision , but maresca play him regularly to aclamatize quickly for the physical games of EPL . They need to add striker for January transfer. Chelsea FC is strong if they play 3 man central midfield with strong of in defensive and offensive . Two wrong tactical decisions from the manager. He should have played gusto or James or acheapong at the RB . Or play gusto in midfield anchor with caceido and let Enzo marauding the attack . 4312 should have played upfront Jackson and Felix and behind Palmer . NKunKu isn’t a striker . Premier league is different league players should tough enough to compete combine with defence and offence .

    1. For me it is not the players but the style of play that has caused our latest two defeats. We play sideways and backwards at a snails pace. As an ex striker the last thing you want your defence to do is play the safe pass until the ball is lost. Defences hate to be attacked at pace with an element of surprise and you will never score goals by tapping it about like robots at the back.
