“I wish I had not said” – Gary Neville has regrets over Chelsea criticism and takes it back

It looks like a lot of pundits are eating their words on Chelsea right now and taking some things back that they had previously said.

Gary Neville is known for criticising Chelsea a lot over time. The failed football manager has made a career out of football punditry after he retired from the game, and despite being a regular Sky Sports pundit and have his own popular podcast show, Neville’s opinions are known to be wild, often inaccurate, and without substance – at least in my opinion and many other fans I speak to.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea ‘seriously consider’ January approach for Premier League centre back!!

And it seems that Neville has gone back on some comments he said recently on Chelsea as well, calling them billion-dollar bottle-jobs last season. Enzo Maresca also had something to say back on the comments recently.

To be honest, and to be fair to Neville here at least, Chelsea were in a real rut last season and the couple before that as well. Things were toxic, and it had not been going well at all on the pitch. I think even a lot of Chelsea fans were criticising the club big time at this point, and a lot of that was actually justified.

But even still, Neville just had to go too far and too wild with his criticism.

Oh dear, Gary….

In comments picked up by The Daily Mail today, Neville said:

“I wish I had not said ‘billion-dollar bottle jobs’. They’re harsh lines that stain a group of players or a manager. I was actually going to do a roll back on my podcast, the day after, and say that I shouldn’t have probably used that word ‘bottle,’ but when I heard that Mauricio [Pochettino] thought the team were playing for penalties, I thought that it was the epitome of freezing.”

Well, at least he can admit when he is wrong, which is something at least.

  1. The bottlers comment did wind me up but I have greater issues with former Liverpool pundits. I also took issue with his comments regarding Abramovich and his effects on English football. His money reached West Ham, Southampton,Forest and Blackburn. Perhaps it was helping to end the United and Arsenal monopoly making it more open and interesting around the world. Strangely Patrick Vieira and Rio Ferdinand didn’t have issues and were complimentary by comparison. I also have issues with Simon Phillips here who ignored the issues Pochetinno had with astronomical injuries. He also brought the best out of Cucurella and Caicedo improved greatly Jackson and Madueke. He showed belief in Palmer giving him freedom. From Christmas onwards we had the fourth best record finding our scoring and winning head. One final and robbed of another by Michael Oliver enough said on him. But for Sanchez boob v Arsenal gifting Rice a goal we would of been clear Europa. He set the wheels in motion it’s not all Maresca.

    1. I don’t usually do this. But your comment has made me proud pltp be a Chelsea fan. Everything you have said in you comment is 1000% accurate.

  2. Is it not time Papers and TV said goodbye to this clown Neville
They have time and time again allowed him to get away with saying totally unfounded comments
They should look at his experience of Management in Football
Please do us all a favour
