Maresca drops bad news for Chelsea on the back of a great win to darken the mood

Tonight was a brilliant win for Chelsea against Tottenham in a thrilling and wild game at White Hart Lane.

At full time, manager Enzo Maresca went to celebrate with the fans for the second time in a week. There’s a huge swell of support for him and his team after a great run, and this week has seen a surge in his popularity with the travelling support in particular.

Speaking in his press conference after the game, the manager was emotional about the scenes with the fans at the end:

“We work every day for these kind of moments, to celebrate with the fans and be close with them. The way we are in this moment, we are all happy and to share that moment is fantastic. We need our fans home and away. Against Brentford, we need them. It won’t be an easy game and we need them to help us.”

Chelsea’s one black spot on a good win

But it wasn’t all good news today – there was news of an injury to Romeo Lavia, who was replaced at half time:

“Unfortunately, he felt something in his hamstring in the last minutes of the first-half. I don’t like to lose players for five, six or seven games in a row, even if Romeo was fantastic in the first-half.”

That really puts a dampened on an otherwise fantastic night for the Blues. Lavia was perhaps our best player in a sloppy first half, and we were really worried about our prospects in the second when he went off. There was some confusion, as he took a blow to the head from Dejan Kulusevski, but nobody had noticed the hamstring twang.

Lavia continues to be frustratingly prone to picking up these small injuries, and he pray he can shake them off.
