The Athletic share Chelsea’s plan for Andrey Santos with high profile suitors circling after impressive form

Andrey Santos is currently thriving on loan at Strasbourg and he’s set for a place in the Chelsea squad for the 2025/2026 campaign according to The Athletic.

Santos is one of a number of signings from South America as the Blues have increasingly tapped into that market under the new ownership.

Chelsea paid Vasco da Gama a reported fee of £13million for the midfielder in the summer of 2022 before loaning him back to the Brazilian side for the remainder of that season.

Santos set for role in Chelsea squad next season

The 20-year-old impressed in pre-season under Mauricio Pochettino but was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest last season to gain more Premier League experience.

The move turned out to be a disaster and the Blues recalled Santos in January and sent him to Strasbourg, where after a slow start he found his feet.

There was an expectation Santos might be part of the squad under Enzo Maresca but the decision was taken to send him to Strasbourg once again, where he’s excelling this season.

Manager Liam Rosenior has been full of praise for Santos, who has arguably been Strasbourg’s best player and Chelsea will no doubt be delighted with his development.

Given Romeo Lavia’s injury issues and a lack of depth in midfield there have been calls for Chelsea to recall Santos, but that’s not expected to happen, with the Blues instead weighing up whether to recall Lesley Ugochukwu from Southampton.

However, Santos looks sets to feature for Chelsea next season, with The Athletic reporting the Blues have earmarked the midfielder to be part of the squad next season.

The report adds the youngster also has a number high profile suitors in Europe following his impressive form for Strasbourg.

Chelsea fans are excited by the prospect of Santos and they will be hoping recent links to Kobbie Mainoo aren’t a sign the club are looking to sell Santos.

  1. Santos should be in the team for next season . Lavia is good but not reliable due to history of injuries . It would be good to see 3 man midfield working for Chelsea FC . Plus they need to buy this January a striker , Delap should be a good competition for Jackson / Guiu . Guiu should be given a start to play in premier league so he will have a experience how tough is the league is and good for his development . Center back it will be good for Chelsea FC to recall chalobah . The problem so far is the manager don’t have a clue to utilise this group of talents to compete . His been blind of relying on one player . No doubt he don’t like Felix . NKunKu isn’t a striker, he is number 10 . This manager obsessed of wings . He should find the strength those two quality players. I believe this two will help CFC win games as long they playing regularly and start the game.

  2. The manager looks confused, he have a lot of talented young players out on loan but don’t want to utilize them
