Two reasons Chelsea fans will be against £80m signing this month

Chelsea have been linked to a few players in this transfer window, with the focus now appearing to be Bayern Munich’s hot property Mathys Tel.

But at one stage there was a lot of chatter about Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, who is being pushed out of the club by Ruben Amorim’s formation change. Over time, Napoli emerged as favourites to sign the Argentine. But they are very keen on Karim Adeyemi of Dortmund too, leaving the door open for Chelsea to secure Garnacho before the deadline.

L’Equipe had a report this morning which said that Chelsea are still very much interested in the winger, despite their attentions appearing to have shifted to Tel. United are apparently asking for £80m, which would be a huge sum. Bizarrely, Bayern are mentioned as an interested team as they look to replace Tel. What a mess!

Garnacho demands mean Chelsea would be crazy to complete deal now

If Garnacho is going to cost £80m, you’ll find very few (if any) Chelsea fans who support the signing. There are a number of reasons: firstly, he might just not be that good. Secondly, we’ve got other positions which we’d rather spend money on.

The potential long term ban for Mykhailo Mudryk for doping does mean we’ll eventually need another left winger, but with Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Tyrique George all available, we consider it a lower priority than finding a good striker, an elite centre back or a top goalkeeper.

If the sporting directors really do desire Garnacho, the smart move is to stay patient and try to snap him up in the summer once his value has dropped as he continues to play irregularly, and once we know Mudryk’s future for sure.
