Top Chelsea source shares transfer update with fans hoping club will act before deadline day

Chelsea haven’t ruled out a move for a midfielder before Monday’s deadline day, but it’s not their priority area according to Matt Law.

The January transfer window is into the final few days, but Chelsea haven’t been as busy as expected, although this is usually the stage where things start to pick up.

Renato Veiga’s loan move to Juventus is the only departure of note so far, whilst the Blues have also agreed a deal for Mamadou Sarr to join in the summer from Strasbourg for €15m.

Chelsea haven’t ruled out signing a midfielder

It’s no secret Chelsea are looking to bring in an attacker to strengthen their forward line, and they are said to have intensified their efforts to sign Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.

Another area where Chelsea are light is in midfield, where the Blues are overly reliant on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, whilst Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is seemingly not trusted by Enzo Maresca.

Romeo Lavia is expected to sidelined until mid March as his injury woes continue, meaning Chelsea don’t have any depth in midfield.

The Blues explored a loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, whilst there have also been calls to recall one of Lesley Ugochukwu or Andrey Santos from their loan spells at Southampton and Strasbourg respectively.

Chelsea are a Caicedo or Fernandez injury away from having a big problem, and Law has reported in The Telegraph that sources aren’t ruling out a move for a number six before deadline day, but the primary area of focus is attack, with the club looking at both wingers and strikers.

It’s baffling why the Blues to this point have ignored adding depth to the midfield giving they have two in house solutions available to them, and failure to bring in any midfield cover could prove very costly as they look to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
