Insider gives latest update on £60k defender loan – with worrying new detail of alternate option

January is in full flight and there are deals and rumours buzzing all around right now. One of the Chelsea-related moves with the most intensity around it is the potential deal to take Renato Veiga to Borussia Dortmund,

We got an update from Patrick Berger last night on the situation which has today been reinforced by top German insider Florian Plettenberg. He gives some detail on the German club’s bid:

It’s a loan offer, with an option to buy. Dortmund will pay all of Veiga’s £60,000 a week salary, plus a loan fee to Chelsea.

Worryingly however, the Tweet also mentions an “alternative” which the German side are considering: Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko. The reason this is worrying is that the Gunners are desperate to get rid of their former first choice left back, and so will likely make a deal very easy to do.

So, we suppose it’s only worrying if you’re keen to get rid of Veiga. We’re not sure Chelsea are. However the chance to spin a massive profit in 6 months on a player would be tempting for anyone.

We don’t imagine Chelsea were expecting their second choice left back to push to leave this month. He’s played a lot among different competitions, and only signed in the summer. But now he’s made it clear he wants to go, what comes next?

The Blues will be happy to let him go for a profit, but a loan doesn’t guarantee them anything, even with an option to buy. They will likely press for a clause that makes the deal permanent upon certain objectives being reached, just so they can have some certainties to build around for the future.
