£15m defender has “impressive physical profile” as he makes first steps in Chelsea blue

Aaron Anselmino was bought by Chelsea last summer for £15m, and in January was recalled from Boca Junior where he had remained on loan.

Since then he’s been named in a few first team squads, but has basically just trained. This weekend he got his first action in a Blue shirt, playing for the Development Squad against Liverpool in a 3-0 win. He wasn’t challenged much, with Chelsea Youth who watched the game saying the young defender “will have had harder training sessions.”

Given he’d already picked up a fair few Boca appearances by the time he left Argentina, 19 year old Anselmino likely is more experienced in senior action than a lot of the other players on the pitch in that game. Chelsea Youth also noted his “impressive physical profile.”

We do wonder why a rumoured loan move to Marseille on deadline day failed, it seemed a perfect chance for him to get some first team action in Europe under his belt.

Maresca quotes make Anselmino future clear

When Anselmino was first recalled, ahead of the FA Cup Third Round game against Morecambe, there were some interesting quotes from Enzo Maresca making it clear that there was no intention to use the Argentine soon:

“No, it is still too early. The plan for him is to put him in condition to get some minutes in the future, not now,. He had some injuries when he was there (Boca Juniors). Now it’s important to arrive here and adapt to English weather, English football and then from there we start to use him.”

Since Maresca said that, we’ve been knocked out of the FA Cup too, closing off domestic cups as an avenue for minutes, and likely guaranteeing that Development Squad action will be the highest level the youngster gets this season.

  1. It’s time for young man to get game time to EPL for CFC …. He has to adopt quickly don’t waste his time and treat him well unlike that manager treat others without respect . What happens to chilwell and Felix veiga and others . This are quality players that should be playing for the team . And what happen to the new signing ? This manager is full of illusion that failed the team .
