Enzo Maresca has been speaking to TNT Sports ahead of Chelsea’s game against Southampton at Stamford Bridge, and the first question to the Blue coach was about the line up he had selected to face the struggling Saints.
“Trevoh Chalobah is injured so we have brought in Tosin and Jadon has worked well, so it’s about giving them some minutes. Enzo is working well, he is arriving in the box, he is dangerous with goals and assists,” the coach explained.
The endless shuffling at the back has caused disruption all season – and it’s only going to get worse now that Wesley Fofana is fit. But it’s certainly true that we’ve seen Enzo at his most dangerous when he’s allowed to roam forward, and he’s already making inroads tonight. The opening goal came from a corner won when Enzo slid Cole Palmer through.
That wasn’t the first time that the Argentine had been found in space, and he could get plenty more opportunities against a struggling Southampton side.

Enzo warns Chelsea fans about “aggressive” Southampton

As managers always do, Enzo tried to keep his players focused despite the lowly opposition by pointing to their strengths:
“We try always to prepare in the best way. This is a tricky and tough game. They are very aggressive, they try to be man-to-man. It will be a tough game and we will try to win.”
That’s true – but let’s be real, we should be slamming in a few here, and if we don’t that’s very worrying. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge is very tense, especially when the Blues are playing out from the back, and we need a few goals to get everyone feeling good again.
