Loic Remy was an interesting buy for Chelsea – a backup striker who was there when you needed him. We could do with a Loic Remy in the squad right now, in fact.
He’s today been speaking out about Jean-Phillippe Mateta, the Crystal Palace striker the Blues have been linked with recently, and Remy was super positive about the idea of his countryman going to Stamford Bridge:
“Jean-Philippe Mateta has the profile to thrive at Chelsea. I saw him playing in the Olympics for the French national side and he impressed me a lot. He isn’t the type of player to really impress you technically but he is always there and loves scoring goals. He is so annoying to play against as a defender. He has the right profile.”
It feels like Mateta would have been a good buy in January if we could get him at the right price – but given Palace were never going to give him up mid-season for anything less than a king’s ransom, maybe it never would have worked out.
By the time we get to this summer, we expect the club will be aiming higher.
Chelsea conned by super agent again

On a similar note, there was some interesting talk on the London is Blue podcast this week about a player Chelsea shouldn’t have signed. Their guest CFCCentral laid into the Joao Felix transfer, saying he had known it was a bad idea from the start, as we all did, frankly:
🧐 Is Chelsea's lack of CF options down to poor planning or circumstance? @CFCCentral3 provides his read of the situation

“Joao Felix, I mean fool me once… I rated this Joao Felix signing a zero point something when it happened, but I think when you’ve got you hands dirty with Jorge Mendes, he pulls the strings then you dance the way that he wants you to dance.”
Well put.
