After a stinking run of results, Chelsea needed a big win to raise spirits, and they got one against Southampton as they ran out 4-0 winners.
The training video that’s come out today shows a group who look far happier than they did a week ago when they were coming off the back of 3 defeats on the spin.
There have also been some new faces added to the group in recent weeks. Mathis Amougou joined on January’s transfer deadline day, and has now made his debut with some late minutes as a sub.
He’s a defensive midfielder, but in these sessions his most notable recorded actions are his impressive shooting skills. He slammed in one right footed effort in particular which will have impressed the watching Enzo Maresca we’re sure.
The manager said when Amougou arrived he wasn’t really part of the first team plans – but he’s already had a cameo, and if he impresses in training, the coach might have to reconsider his stance.
You can see all the training action in the clip embedded here, with his powerful effort coming after 6 minutes:
Academy star continues rise as he tries to get into Maresca’s plans

Another player who got his Blues debut on Tuesday was youth academy product Shim Mheuka. He is also notable in these sessions and clearly is considered a proper first team player while Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu are out injured.
Both he and Amougou play in positions where we’re particularly thin right now, and while we don’t expect a start anytime soon, both could be in line for more minutes, particularly in the Conference League second leg if we get a strong result in the first game against Copenhagen next week.
