Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi remains of interest to Chelsea ahead of the summer window according to The Athletic.
The Blues had a very quiet January much to the disappointment of supporters, with the signing of Mathis Amougou from St Etienne on deadline day the only arrival.
Chelsea moved a number of players on, although the only permanent departure was that of Cesare Casadei, who signed for Torino.
Guehi remains of interest to Chelsea
Due to injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, the Blues were forced to enter the market for defensive reinforcements.
Chelsea explored a move for former player Guehi, but ultimately decided a deal was too expensive and opted to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Selhurst Park.
The Blues are said to be looking at centre backs ahead of the summer window, and already have 19-year-old Mamadou Sarr arriving from Strasbourg in the summer.
The club have recently been linked with Bologna’s Sam Beukema, but according to The Athletic Chelsea still retain an interest in Guehi.
Chelsea are said to be keen on bringing Guehi back to Stamford Bridge, and the England international will only have one year left on his current deal come the end of the season.
Guehi is set to have a number of clubs after his services, but Chelsea have an advantage over their competitors due to a 20% sell on clause they inserted into the deal that took Guehi to the Eagles.
The 24-year-old is an England international and proven at Premier League level, whilst he also possesses the leadership that Chelsea’s back line desperately needs.
Palace wanted up to £70m for their captain last summer, but due to his contractual situation they won’t be able to demand anywhere near that fee come the summer.
Wherever Guehi ends up next season one club is going to get themselves a very good deal come the summer, and Chelsea could do a lot worse than bring back their former academy graduate.
