Ben Jacobs must be gutted that he missed out on the scoop for the double move for Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP to Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano broke the first one overnight last week and the news about Essugo followed soon after. Jacobs – who is usually connected with these things, especially at Chelsea, was nowhere to be seen.
Both of them from nowhere, by the modern standards of football transfers.
But to make up for it, Jacobs dropped a really in depth piece yesterday about the moves, where they came from and what the plans are for the two youngsters coming in from Lisbon.
As we know, Quenda won’t be arriving for more than a year, meaning more time to develop his game and hopefully continue picking up valuable senior experience.
But Essugo will arrive in the summer – and according to Jacobs could contribute even sooner than that.
Chelsea will have Essugo playing in Blue in 3 months’ time

Chelsea’s Premier League season ends in May – but the Club World Cup comes up soon after.
FIFA have created an “exceptional window” for clubs taking part which opens between the 1st and the 10th of June. That means the Blues can register Essugo and play him during their involvement – and according to Jacobs’ Tweet today that’s exactly what they’re planning to do.
Chelsea hoping Dario Essugo can be part of their Club World Cup squad, but first The FA must sanction a FIFA-proposed 'exceptional window' between 1-10 June for clubs to make transfers.
Each member association can decide whether to take it and if so, it applies to all clubs,…

So while Blues fans are going to have to wait more than a year to see Quenda in action, it’s only 3 months until they may see Essugo pull on the Blue shirt. After what’s going to be an immensely long and tiring season for Moises Caicedo, that’s fantastic news. Essugo is coming in to share the load, and he can get started right away.
