Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea team put in a pretty diabolical performance against Arsenal today and could have played for hours without scoring.
As ever, the Blues boss was reluctant to criticise his players directly, and he even pointed to the positives in the performance.
“I think we struggled a little bit at the beginning. I think the first 20 minutes, we struggled a little bit, but after that, we started to control the game and created some chances. In the second-half, the game was 50/50 and for me, the biggest difference was the set-piece strategy.”
Read the room, Enzo, we want to know that you know know that this sort of showing in a game against our rivals is not acceptable. We don’t want to hear you saying that we only lost because of a set piece.
Maresca lets two underperformers off lightly
Chelsea were really poor collectively, but their wide options came in for particular criticism. We can at least remember a couple of wild shots from Pedro Neto and some tough tackles from Enzo Fernandez. Christopher Nkunku and Jadon Sancho on the other hand may as well have not played.
Of course, Enzo Maresca simply refused to criticise them. In fact, he went as far as to say they “did quite well” and couldn’t have done better. That just feels insulting to our intelligence at this stage:
“Jadon did quite well, Christo also. I didn’t have the feeling they can do something better. For sure, we can create and attack better as a team,” Maresca said.
We wonder if he’s just protecting them in public and is in fact demanding more from them behind the scenes. Or does he tell them in the dressing room this sort of dire performance is acceptable?

I thought I’m the only one who saw it our club is just playing like a division 3 league side in fact I will distance myself from watching Chelsea football for now and concentrate on our women football I don’t know what we are playing rubbish and nonsense

You got it. I have never seen any set of Chelsea players as sluggish as this present team with their clueless coach behaving like them. Even the relegation-bound Leicester players show seriousness and eager to win for 90 minutes. Yesterday match against Arsenal was the worst display. Sancho and Nkunku were totally flops. Infact it is Cucurola that showed seriousness and made attempt to score. 90% of Chelsea players are write-off.
I suggest a total overhaul of the team next season with a serious manager not this third-class coach call Maresca.
Gutless, afraid to make a mistake, and still making buckets full. Possession is great but the objective is to score so as to WIN games, not just keep passing aimlessly. Maresca can say what he wants, but as a team, this is the worst I’ve ever seen. And im a fan since 1970.
Is it time for a change ?????
I’ve been an avid fan since 1969 & I can say on deep reflection that this is the worst Chelsea team I have ever seen. It seems incredible that just 3 years ago we won the Champions League. That actually seems like 1000 years now. Then all we needed was a centre forward & a left back to replace Rudiger. We also had perhaps the best, most intelligent & cerebral manager we had ever had in Touchel. So the first act of Bohley et al was to sack him them spend £1.5 billion (yes billion) replacing that side with a bunch of second raters & now a manager who wants to stifle all creativity & demand his players hold their positions & just endlessly pass the ball sideways (& backwards). Why buy so-called world class players if you are just going to play them out of position & muzzle them? And why is he so determined to be the only person on earth to think Sanchez is anything but a third rate keeper. He will NEVER stop playing him. I just despair.
For me I even pray that James gets injured again. Why are testing him to play in middle field yet we have played who can do better. I watched carabao final u would see players of NC giving their best and in the end they won. But our players lack dedication apart from Caciado.
Nkunku should not be anywhere near Chelsea team,that guy is useless in the pitch,he should be ashamed.Our coach is fuck,u have one of the best right back defender James and u are putting him in the midfield.He was lost there.I don’t know,Maresca head should be seriously examined.
