Chelsea are back in it against Ipswich at Stamford Bridge.
We wanted a reaction after half time, and it took just 18 seconds to get one, presumably after a rocket in the dressing room from Enzo Maresca.
From the kick off, a long ball out to the right wing found its way to Noni Madueke, who continued his positive attacking contributions in those sorts of moments by taking on his full back and winning.
He fired in a low cross which was turned for an own goal by Axel Tuanzebe with Marc Cucurella ready to turn it in if the Ipswich defender didn’t. The pressure from the Spaniard, and his blind side run, was vital in making this goal happen.

Chelsea get goal at perfect time to spark comeback

It’s stating the obvious, but that was just what Chelsea needed. We were potentially looking at a second half spiral of misery with the crowd increasingly agitated and the away team ready to sit back and defend. Now the picture has really changed, the Stamford Bridge faithful are back on their feet supporting their team and there’s a real belief we can win this game, not just draw it.
The credit for the goal won’t go to Marc Cucurella, but he deserves it. It was his pressure which forced the own goal, his dynamic running which created danger. He’s not universally loved, but he is excellent at finding space in the box and timing his runs to create danger.
If we do go on and win this game, we’re certain he will have continued to play a crucial role in the comeback.
Your article states a ‘long ball’ out to Maduke provided for the first goal. Well that must have displeased Maresca because he doesn’t like long balls!
