This game started about as badly as it possibly could have for Chelsea, with the Blues giving away a penalty and going behind against Legia Warsaw despite having played such a strong team from the start.
But the good news is that 30 minutes of slow, passive possession play later, Enzo Maresca’s team have equalised.
It was the stad-padder extraordinaire Jadon Sancho who set it up with some nice play down the right. He picked up two assists in the first leg of this tie and grabbed another here, squaring up his marker, beating him to the byline and pulling back a very nice, neat, deliberate low cross to pick out Marc Cucurella who had crept into the box in his typical fashion.
It was an easy finish for the Spaniard, who didn’t celebrate much, knowing the situation.

Cucurella adds another to superb goal tally

Cucurella is having a ridiculous season – he’s scored 6 since the 15th of December, making him our top scorer in that period. He’s got 2 more than his nearest challenger (Noni Madueke) in that period.
That’s a great credit to the Spaniard, but shows how worryingly poor the likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have been in that time. It also doesn’t reflect too well on Enzo Maresca’s formation, which seems set up to make it hard for any attacker to score at the moment.
No result we get tonight can convince us this strong team selection from Enzo Maresca wasn’t a mistake, but it can certainly be mitigated by scoring a hatful in the second half against a pretty woeful Warsaw team who are there to be beaten.
