While there are still some hugely important games left to play for the likes of Chelsea and other teams in the chase for the Champions League places, the majority of the Premier League are already looking ahead to next season .
That’s why the BBC has chosen now to do their first big transfer Q and A of the summer with their top team writers – including Nizaar Kinsella writing about the Blues.
Chelsea “guarded” over real striker targets as competition hots up
The first question put to him is about Chelsea’s well established search for a striker, and while he’s not got any exclusive information here, it’s very interesting to hear his take on where we stand.
Like the rest of us, he sees Ipswich’s Liam Delap as our “most likely” target up front, in part thanks to the connection with Joe Shields, and in part thanks to the £30m release clause the striker has.
But Kinsella notes that Chelsea are “quite guarded” over their real target. There is so much competition for any striker out there that the Blues don’t want to let on who they’re most keen on. The likes of Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and even Victor Osimhen can’t be “ruled out”, given it may prove impossible to sign our first or maybe even second choice striker.
Aggressive Chelsea can’t end another summer empty handed
He summarises by saying Chelsea are likely to be “aggressive” in signing a striker, and will look to end up with a “capable option to complement Nicolas Jackson.”
We all hope so – we drew a blank last summer, and we’re facing the consequences now, as we prepare to take on the two biggest league games of the season without a striker following Jackson’s red card in our last game.
It’s better, they do get a prolific striker and the type he will be willing to give his all to the team and Osimhen has been proven to be the one. I don’t think 10 million should be a problem for a team like Chelsea. They board should be smart if they want to be at the level of Abramovic.
Really? He failed to score in Germany moved to Belgium scored 10 then 12 in France then moved to Italy 10, 14, 26 15 in Italy hardly prolific one good season in 7. He has 24 in the Turkish farmer league playing for their most successful team.
Feel free to tell me what happens when he goes to AFCON which has been moved forward to December meaning he could miss upto 10 games. I suspect you’re Nigerian we don’t need another African striker . And if Jackson stays that’s two missing at a busy vital time. Get a European striker Gyokores is fine.
