Brand new centre back target is now named as Chelsea’s priority in breaking news report

A brand new centre back target has now been named as Chelsea’s priority in a breaking news report coming out this morning.

There is a lot going on this week in the aftermath of the first summer transfer window closing on Tuesday night ahead of the Club World Cup.

EXCLUSIVE! Mike Maignan to Chelsea is NOT over, Petrovic up for sale, Sanchez available!

Chelsea failed to sign Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens after being in talks, but there are other situations ongoing right now, such as the future of Trevoh Chalobah, who is wanted by Napoli this summer.

There was also a report out earlier in the week detailing the stats that prove Chelsea should have, and still can, sign Maignan from AC Milan this summer simply because he’s a big upgrade.

Chelsea still want Williams

Chelsea continue to be linked with winger Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao and there was a report out yesterday even suggesting that they are now in a three way battle with Arsenal and Bayern Munich to sign him.

However, this move has always felt very unrealistic due to the fact he will be on big wages and it will not fit in Chelsea’s structure.

Defender still a priority thoughImage

We haven’t heard much on new Chelsea defender links for a while and we were surprised Chelsea didn’t target one before the Club World Cup. But it looks like a new one is still on the agenda.

A Bola in Portugal (as seen in the image above) is reporting that Benfica defender Tomás Araújo is Chelsea’s priority target for the central defender position. He has a release clause of €80million.

They also want to re-sign Joao Felix so I’m sure something could be done to suit both sides here.

  1. It’s a shame Chelsea are still using their ineffective “scattergun approach” signing too many prospects with no future. They’ll end up having another bloated squad!

Again, the profile of players they’re targeting like Hugo Ekitike are too soft. They’ve seen that already with Nkunku. The premier league is robust and other teams like City and Arsenal are well ahead in terms of their team’s physicality. For a couple of years now they’ve wasted money on French players for their backline without any meaningful progress or output. For me Spanish CBs and midfielders are more intelligent with ball progression. Our current crop of defenders aren’t technically astute. They’re too raw, shaky and error prone. It’s time to bring in solid players with unique skill sets.

Lastly, it’s time they address key areas. Robert Sanchez cost them a handful of points with his errors. An upgrade is needed! Like I’ve said Spanish CBs are needed too. But I’d like Jarrad Branthwaite to forge an English partnership with Levi Colwill if possible. Sell Nicolas Jackson. We don’t need 14 goals person strikers. Buy another experienced world class striker like Viktor Gyokeres to join Liam Delap. For wingers, there are so many wingers out there. Just get a good one that’s all!
