Reece James has delivered his verdict on Chelsea’s new signing Liam Delap and said he’s “delighted” the striker is at the club.
The Blues made Delap their first summer signing after agreeing a deal worth £30m with Ipswich for the 22-year-old.
Delap was one of Chelsea’s top targets and they will be delighted to have beaten off strong competition from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle for his signature.
Reece James give verdict on Liam Delap
Chelsea struggled without an alternative to Nicolas Jackson last season, but have moved quickly to address that with the signing of Delap.
Delap impressed in his debut Premier League season with 12 goals and Enzo Maresca publicly praised him on a number of occasions last season.
The England under-21 international will wear the number nine shirt at Stamford Bridge, and he will give Chelsea a much needed different dimension in attack with his physicality and box presence.
Cole Palmer thinks Delap is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and James has now shared his thoughts on Chelsea’s newest signing.
“He’s had a great season at Ipswich and I’m very happy he’s going to be joining us for next season,” he said as quoted by The Standard.
“He’s a great player and I’m delighted he’s with us.”
Chelsea debut at Club World Cup
Delap is set to make his Chelsea debut at the Club World Cup after it was confirmed he wouldn’t be representing England at the U21 Euros.
The former Ipswich man could make his debut in Chelsea’s opening game against Los Angeles FC on June 16th in Atlanta.
Delap will link up with some familiar faces in Palmer and Romeo Lavia having played with the duo in the Manchester City academy so he should settle in quickly.
