No transfer talk means underrated, understated Chelsea defender has finally proved himself

Chelsea beat PSG 3-0 on Sunday night, totally blowing away the best team in Europe with a superb showing.

The attention went to the attackers, of course. Cole Palmer was given a 9.9 rating after he picked up two goals and an assist, while Joao Pedro bagged his third in just his second start for the club.

Understated defender puts in another masterclass

But there were great performances through the whole team, and one of the best was from Trevoh Chalobah. He and his fellow defenders kept a dangerous PSG team totally quiet, managing their pace, their intensity and their technicality superbly.

On the ball the team had to perform too, considering the fearsome pressing the opposition rely on. Chalobah never once looked spooked under fire.

As some have pointed out, it was less than a year ago that Chalobah was playing friendlies for the youth team after not being taken on the preseason tour of the USA. He was frozen out in the bomb squad and the club did all they could to sell him on.

In the end, they only managed a loan, and by January they wanted him back. He returned, slotted straight into the team, and for the second season in a row helped a huge improvement in the back leg of the season.

Playing a crucial role in a win over PSG is the icing on the cake of a brilliant 12 months proving himself all over again.

The lack of transfer rumours we’re hearing right now makes us think he’s finally convinced the sporting directors that he’s good enough to be a really useful player for us. If only they had listened to us 2 years ago.

  1. Trev Chalobah is a brilliant defender whose not afraid to kick ball into row Z, when required. All this tippy tapping about across our own Defensive third is ridiculous and often ends up loosing possession. Trev plays basic passes to team mates which a lot of our other players need to do. Just because he’s not from Brazil DOESNT mean he can’t be a good player, and he’s a CHELSEA man. Tell him he’s staying and we may see an even better Trev. Even Sanchez had a great game!! Why ! Because instead of thinking hes George Best and trying to complicate a really easy game to play by trying pass in our own area he was kicking long balls first time up field behind PSG defensive line and WOW instead of defending deep we were on the attack!! Leave Trev alone and build our defence around him Levi another Chelsea boy (remember where J T came from).
