Chelsea player picks Wrexham midfielder and not one Chelsea man in his all time Xl

A current Chelsea player has picked a Wrexham midfielder and not one Chelsea player in his all time Xl this week!

Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!

Sources: Chelsea still looking to sign West Ham star despite agreeing deal to bring Joao Pedro in!

Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.

And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!

Players often do these

You’ll often see pro players being asked to name their best ever Xl’s, and some of them will go ahead and take it deadly seriously, others perhaps may not do that as much.

I feel that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. who’s best ever Xl you can see in full further below, was not quite taking this one seriously. Or maybe he was? Maybe he just truly rates the players he’s got in his team more than some of the actual world class players to have played the game. He’s also not got any Chelsea players former or present in his team (and no, I’m not counting Kevin De Bruyne because he made himself at Man City).

Dewsbury-Hall’s best Xl

So, as posted on X this week, this is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s all-time favourite XI:

GK: Iker Casillas

LB: Kal Naismith
CB: Rio Ferdinand
CB: Virgil van Dijk
RB: Ricardo Pereira

CM: Paul Scholes
CM: Kevin De Bruyne
CM: Elliot Lee

RW: Lionel Messi
LW: Wayne Rooney
ST: Jamie Vardy

I’m going with he’s definitely not taken this seriously!

  1. Reminds me of a nice conversation I had with a London cabbie when I was over there a couple of years ago. He started talking about the greatest footballers he’d ever seen and named his five greatest – Maradonna, Pele, Bobby Moore and so on – and asked me to name mine of the current era.

Obviously he knew more about the game than I did, so I named the big three – Messi, Ronaldo and Zlatan – then picked Diego Castro and Harry Kewell because they’re the greatest to have played for my hometown club and country respectively.

    He seemed to respect that!
